Observing the collection, we’ll pay special attention to trees.  How many ways can you paint a tree?  How simple can the shapes be while still explaining the tree to the viewer?  Artist Tanya Harsch will walk us through the observation of tree paintings before returning to the studio to attempt our own.  Studio practice will include color mixing, observing shapes that capture not only the character of the individual tree but also clue us into the species, brushwork, blending, and acrylic painting techniques.

Classroom Connections:  New England Landscape, Trees, Shape, Agriculture

Arts Vocabulary:  Texture, Value, Primary Color, Secondary Color

Pre-registration Required (Materials provided)

Contact Hour(s): 2
