Arts in Education Program Overview
Through its Arts in Education programs, Farnsworth Art Museum educators and teaching artists join classroom teachers and art teachers to connect the arts to school learning goals. Together, these educators develop experiential learning opportunities that extend from the classroom, to the museum, and out into the community.
Stories of the Land and Its People (Grades 4 and 7)
Running August to May, The Stories of the Land and Its People program is a multi-visit, arts-integrated, expeditionary experience that connects curricular learning standards to the arts. Students and teachers partner with museum educators, professional artists, and community members to study their local communities. A final exhibition of their work is then shared at the Farnsworth Art Museum and beyond. Founded in the curiosities of the students and teachers, Stories projects have included historical research, poetry writing, environmental studies, and more.

Arts-Integration Units
With the generous and continued support of foundations, grants, and individuals, the Farnsworth Art Museum is able to provide free arts-integrated multi-visit programing to Maine schools, focusing in the Mid-coast regions. These in-depth partnerships connect arts-learning in the galleries to in-school curricular goals. Together, museum educators and classroom teachers build lessons to enrich student learning through the arts. Prior to registering, please review the program requirements and note that space in the multi-visit programs are limited.
