Arts in Education Program - Films

Learn more about the Farnsworth Art Museum's Arts in Education Program.  These films document our mission to engage students, teachers, and artists in meaningful, arts-learning strategies.  Hear from our school partners as they share their experience, follow a guided tour of student work, join us for a student exhibition opening, and more!


Stories of the Land and Its People explores student and teacher curiosity through art, inquiry, creativity, and interactive learning experiences. It provides professional development opportunities for teachers and artists, free online resources for all educators, one-on-one arts integration consultations, and various multi-visit arts-integration programs led by the Arts in Education Program Manager — all offered free of charge! Over the past eight years, the Farnsworth has directly served over 1,500 students at 17 schools while working with an average of 150 teachers per year!

Stories of the Land and Its People - Exhibition Opening, 2019 (9:41 min.)

View highlights from the Stories of the Land and Its People 2019 student exhibition opening. Students, Teachers, Principals, and Museum Staff share their experience in this yearlong arts-integrated program.

Art & Advocacy Unit, 2019 (7:12 min.)

This film documents the work of student participants of the Farnsworth’s Arts in Education Multi-visit Arts-Integration Program “Art and Advocacy.” Inspired by the Farnsworth Art Museum's exhibition of dissident artist Ai Weiwei’s artwork, students examined local and global issues relevant in their lives through the lens of art advocacy. In partnership with Storm Warriors, students and teachers at Rivers Alternative Middle School share their experiences and the construction of their “brain sculpture.”

Stories of the Land and Its People - Exhibition Tour, 2017 (5 min.)

Join Arts in Education Program Manager, Andrea Curtis, on a tour of the sixth Stories of the Land and Its People exhibition at the Farnsworth Art Museum.  Students explored Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) in their year-long arts-integrated projects.

Stories of the Land and Its People - Exhibition Opening Event, 2017 (5 min.)

View highlights from the sixth Stories of the Land and Its People exhibition opening at the Farnsworth Art Museum. A red carpet is rolled out (literally!) to welcome student participants, teachers, and their guests to celebrate a year's worth of arts-integration. Arts in Education Program - Overview (Complete), 2017 (5 min)

Stories of the Land and Its People - The Film, 2012 (31 min.)

Student filmmakers in the Farnsworth Art Museum's Julia's Gallery Program for Young Artists partner with Director Nicole Marie Fuller to document the first year of the Stories of the Land and Its People program. Students follow Stories Program Manager, Andrea Curtis, as she introduces this yearlong arts-integrated partnership to four Midcoast Maine public schools --building the foundation for today's Arts in Education Program.
